The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is reportedly raising funds in protest of what they describe as the Trump administration’s capture of Venezuela’s government, Breitbart reports, after Nicolás Maduro, the country’s illegitimate socialist dictator, and his wife, Cilia Flores were captured by United States forces.

An email circulated by the disgruntled DNC quotes, “Another day, another unconstitutional war from Trump, who thinks the Constitution is a suggestion,” adding, “Congress has war powers — but Republican cowards are hiding under their desks while Trump orders an unauthorized attack against Venezuela. Trump promised peace, but has delivered chaos.”

The message goes on to say, “The most important step is electing more Democrats who will check this administration’s power.” This fundraising email reportedly went out the same morning that President Trump ordered Maduro’s arrest for a slew of alleged crimes, including narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess such weapons against the United States.

DNC Chair Ken Martin also issued a statement criticizing the arrest, asserting that Trump acted illegally. He described the move as a grave betrayal, suggesting Trump has dragged the United States into a volatile situation in South America with an uncertain timeline. Martin argued that as Trump’s influence wanes, he is willing to jeopardize Americans and erode the Constitution in a bid to cling to power and relevance.

“This is the worst kind of betrayal from Trump. He committed the United States to an uncertain rile in South America with an indeterminate timeline. As Trump’s influence over the country and the world wanes, he is ready and willing to endanger Americans and abandon the Constitution as a last-ditch effort to hold on to power and relevancy,” Martin claimed.

U.S. authorities have long expressed interest in Maduro, including a substantial bounty previously announced for information leading to his arrest or conviction. In 2020, U.S. courts charged Maduro with involvement in narco-terrorism as part of broader allegations against top Venezuelan officials linked to the Cartel of the Suns, a narcotics operation accused of attempting to flood the United States with cocaine.

According to a report by Breitbart’s Christian K. Caruzo, “Maduro, who maintained his power through several sham presidential elections, was actively wanted by U.S. authorities on multiple narco-terrorism charges. The U.S. had an active $50 million bounty on information leading to Nicolás Maduro’s arrest and/or conviction.”
